The literary world is all too kind about science violations. The Paris Ritz is blown to bits; a plane lingeringly disintegrates in mid-air; the French Premier’s captive son has a wire ‘inserted into a wound on his stomach, attaching itself to his liver, lashing it with electricity’ and these terrible events carry in their dull elaboration a proof that ‘no one cares’.

It is so dense, that just like a black hole, it sucks everything in, even gravity. Therefore, if at times you feel some hints at emotion, think about the second to last sentence of the book: Almost as dark, in fact, as the various places fantasised or inhabited in American Psycho.

Even though I enjoyed the satire initially, it took forever to finish first two parts of the book. See all books by Bret Easton Ellis. He discovers that he is still a marked man, and he cannot help finding that his identity is obliterated.

Might be true, in elliz ways, might be well written, but it made me feel subhuman and aggressively angry for weeks.

Sometimes there’s a reason something hasn’t seen before– it’s wrong.

This is a pretty devastating critique, I think. This is the only Bret Easton Ellis book with a plot; his longest work so far, and definitely glamoeama hardest book in terms of difficulty to read.
